Malorie married her Scottish husband Neil in the 1990s and their daughter, Elizabeth was born in 1995. Malorie has described herself, “I’m just Malorie blackman – a black woman writer.” Her private school education was funded through a series of grants offered to her through her “exceptional writing” and her parents funded the rest of the fees through a series of low-paid jobs. This influenced Malorie’s first book, Not So Stupid, which was a collection of horror and science fiction stories for children, published in November 1990. Since then she has written more than fifty children’s books, including novels and short story collections, and also television scripts and a stage play. Her work has won more than fifteen awards.

Malorie Blackman took two years to publish her first book(Not So Stupid) after several rejection letters. When she was a child her favourite book was ‘The Silver Chair’ by C.S.Lewis and when she was 11 her favourite book was ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Bronte. Before Malorie Blackman became a writer she used to work as a Database Manager. Her agent is Hilary Delamere at The Agency (UK)Ltd. She also likes writing for children because she thinks that children are a joyful audience and they are honest about what they like and what they don’t like.

Malorie Blackman wanted to be a teacher but some people told her not to and persuaded her to get another job. Malorie Blackman has got 9000 books that she has written in her house. She likes to mess about on her piano and play cumputer games. Malorie Blackman lives in kent with her husbund Neal and her children. She has won lots of competitions, for example, the smarties award, the childrens book award and many more!!! Malorie Blackman was born on February 8th 1962 in London. Her first book was called not so stupid and was published in 1990. Malorie Blackman did not give up when lots of publisher said they were not going to accept her copy. I personally think that those who did not accept it lost out on a lot of money. 🙂 🙂 🙂
